Mike has been on staff at First Christian Church in The Dalles since December 1, 1984. He has served as Youth Minister, Associate Minister and now as Lead Pastor as of August 2020. He loves being involved with people, sharing God’s Word, seeing people grow in their faith and equipping others to use their spiritual gifts in ministry for the building up of the Kingdom and reaching the community with the message of God’s great love.
Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Karen. They enjoy golfing, hiking, biking, traveling, playing board games, and doing spontaneous things that lead to adventure. Mike and Karen have five grown children and six grandchildren. Family activities keep them busy and there is never a dull moment when all the grandchildren get together.
Mike enjoys woodworking, being outside, hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle…and firing up the barbeque!
Lynn was temporarily engaged by the elders of FCC to coach them toward greater church health and effectiveness. He has led us through the following 4-stage procedure.
* Connection: He conducted personal interviews with as many members and participants as possible to gain perspective on FCC’s strengths and weaknesses.
* Inspection: He assembled and led a Church Health Team which assessed results of the Natural Church Development survey, interviews and other assessment tools. Following their research, the CHT made recommendations to FCC’s elders on specific actions to address key health issues.
* Action: FCC’s leadership, including Pastor Mike and the elders, decided on and initiated appropriate actions to improve major health issues. These have been shared with and are being implemented by several of the Major Ministry Directors.
* Direction: As progress was made on immediate actions, He led a Strategic Development Team, which considered FCC’s longer-term direction by writing mission, vision & values statements. These were approved by the elders, shared with the Ministry Action Team and then with the congregation during The State of Our Union message.
Currently, he is assisting the Pastoral Search Team in the hiring of a new Associate/Successor pastor. In addition, he continues his work in helping to lead the church to greater health, while assisting Pastor Mike and the elders in critical areas.
