Dear friends and family,
The start to our year here in Papua has been great, and we hope yours has been as well! For this newsletter, we wanted to focus on stories from the field, starting with a major milestone in Jacob’s field checkout.
We were very excited to celebrate Jacob and his first complete MIC (Mechanic In Charge) inspection on March 3rd. This is an aircraft
maintenance tech’s version of a solo “flight.” Jacob’s boss writes,
“Having another capable, licensed MIC in Papua is so valuable and we are thankful that Jacob was added to our team. The Edmonds family has shown perseverance and dedication in the midst of many changes and obstacles, and we are grateful for their great attitudes. From patience in deputation, to a changed base assignment, to delays in maintenance checkout, and currently waiting for their new house that is in process, we have seen this family shine the love of Christ through their attitude and commitment to this team and ministry. Thank you, Edmonds family! We’re so happy to have you as a part of MAF Sentani!”
Little One in the Lap
The Wamena base in Papua received a call: three young children in Lelambo had malaria and needed medical attention in Sentani. I (Tyler Schmidt) was visiting Wamena and decided to join pilot Joel Geaslen on the flight, to return to Sentani.
When we landed in Lelambo, three very small kids were ushered into the airplane-without an adult. This added much confusion and a lot of discussion about who was accompanying them to Sentani. Their father had already been medevaced by helicopter a few days earlier due to the same illness.
Fortunately the mother was in the crowd and was planning to come, but there were not enough laps for the small kids to sit on. I offered to hold one of the children on my lap and to help with the others. It was fun to offer that kind of help to these little ones.

The Proper Perspective
Last Friday, I was able to do a Maintenance Flight Check on aircraft MAE after it came out of the shop. Today, one of my flights was to Danowage with this same airplane. It puts all the maintenance work in the right perspective of the ministry that can be done because of it!
Together with one SLH teacher, Blandina, we also flew in 1000 kg of supplies in for both the SLH team and Siloam clinic. Among the supplies were also a bunch of avocado plants which they want to plant there as well as some bibit ikan lele (“catfish seedlings”) for a fish project that they are trying to run in Danowage. If these two projects succeed, they can be a healthy addition to the available menu down in the lowlands!

Celebrating five years serving with MAF now!
Jacob will be able to do MIC inspections going forward.
For completion of MAF housing at the new base, as it has taken many months longer than anticipated. Pray also
that our move and settling in would go well.
For Rochelle’s shoulders and arms to be strong and free from pain due to previous injuries.
