Andy is the village ministry director for Alaska Village Missions (AVM). AVM aims to establish native-led churches in the villages on the Alaskan Peninsula. There are approximately 230 villages off the road system in Alaska, 180 yet to have an evangelical church. Andy oversees all current missions, as well as new missionaries and interns going out to minister in more villages.
Andy also teaches at AVM’s Alaska Bible Institute (ABI). This is a 2-Year unaccredited college designed to make Biblical education affordable and accessible. Andy disciples/mentors male students and also organizes short-term missions trips for students out to villages in partnership with other missions in Alaska. Besides teaching their boys, Karina volunteers as the school nurse and disciples/mentors female students.
The Smith family looks forward to facilitating short-term missions teams not only in Alaska but also to Uganda, where they serve with Shepherd’s Heart International Ministry (SHIM). Andrew & Karina continue to provide support and advice when needed to the Ugandan leadership of SHIM.
